Candace Cameron Bure Clashed with ‘Full House’ Producers Over This Outfit Choice

In a recent episode of the podcast “How Rude, Tanneritos,” actresses Andrea Barber and Jodie Sweetin, who portrayed Kimmy Gibbler and Stephanie Tanner respectively on the iconic 90s sitcom Full House, discussed memorable moments from their time on the show. Specifically, they dove into a behind-the-scenes fashion debate centered around an episode titled “Just Say No Way,” which aired on March 30, 1990. This episode tackled serious themes involving underage drinking and the challenges of teenage relationships, focusing particularly on DJ Tanner, played by Candace Cameron Bure, who finds herself grappling with her boyfriend Kevin’s drinking habits.

The episode featured a bold wardrobe choice for Cameron Bure, who donned an all-black ensemble that included a big belt, MC Hammer pants, a black bustier adorned with gold accents, and a cropped black jacket. Sweetin vividly recalled the hairstyle of the time, which involved large bangs styled outward with hairspray. She described how this iconic hairstyle was characteristic of the late 80s and early 90s, noting that while shoulder pads were becoming less prominent, the bangs only grew larger. Barber echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the era’s trendiness with reference to Cameron Bure’s overall look.

Barber elaborated that the outfit was actually a personal choice of Cameron Bure’s, who was keen on wearing this particular pantsuit instead of a dress as suggested by the producers. Barber commented on the boldness and edginess of Cameron Bure’s fashion sense in that episode, drawing comparisons to the influence of pop icons like Janet Jackson. Both actresses expressed admiration for their co-star, highlighting how ahead of the curve her fashion choices were at that time.

The discussion not only highlighted individual styles but also painted a broader picture of Full House as a cultural phenomenon. The hit show, which aired from 1987 to 1995 for a total of eight seasons, was beloved by audiences and captured hearts with its blend of humor and heartfelt storytelling. Following its original run, the show was revived as Fuller House, which streamed on Netflix from 2016 to 2020, allowing both old and new fans to reconnect with the Tanners and their timeless family values.

The original cast of Full House was a talented ensemble featuring actors like Bob Saget, Dave Coulier, Lori Loughlin, and John Stamos, along with the Tanner sisters, Sweetin and Barber. Most of the original cast members returned for the reboot, with the notable exception of the Olson twins. The continuation of the show allowed audiences to see how the characters grew and evolved through the years.

As for Cameron Bure, she has remained a prominent figure in television and film, recently appearing in two new Christmas movies from Great American Family. Her first film, A Christmas Less Traveled, premiered in early November, followed by Home Sweet Christmas debuting on December 1. The ongoing success of these projects speaks to her enduring popularity and connection with fans, as she continues to embody the spirit of her iconic Full House character while branching out into new creative avenues.
