With claws out and fangs bared, four zodiac signs will spend the rest of the year as apex antagonists.

Mars retrograde December 2024

Mars — our planet of war and will, action and aggression — will retrograde in the fixed fires of Leo for a full month, starting on Friday, Dec. 6.

Then, on Jan. 6, 2025, Mars will continue its retrograde in the cardinal waters of Cancer, finishing out its warpath on Feb. 25.

How long does Mars retrograde last?

Mars goes retrograde roughly once every two years for a challenging period of eight to 11 weeks.

The planet of getting it on and getting it done, Mars informs ambition, sexuality and conflict response and resolution.

Mars is a personal planet, and because the realms that the red planet rules are so integral to our daily routines and essential sense of power, we experience the effects of the planet’s retrograde more acutely.

It can feel a little defeating, triggering insecurity, impatience and defense, calling us to pick up sharp objects, weaponize words and guard our soft underbellies at all costs.

Astrologer Joshua Pingley, aka The Spiritual Weatherman, has taken to TikTok to share his picks for the zodiac signs most likely to go full villain during the first phase of Mars retrograde.

Pigley emphasized, “FEAR the fixed signs,” explaining that Mars will go retrograde for the first time in two years and the fixed signs — looking at you Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius — are poised to spend the rest of the year in full-blown villain mode.

Is Mars retrograde right now?

This IDGAF energy starts now and extends to anyone with sun rising or Mars in the fixed signs.

While the fixed signs will be the most activated by this transit, he insists, “We are all going to experience this transit in one way or another whether it be general frustration or irritation stemming from things not going as planned, people being extremely rude or just generally being more on edge.”

And though everyone will be fazed, “four zodiac signs above the rest are going to be ready to RAGE.”

Fixed signs stabilize seasons and hold on tight to grudges, pride and ideologies. Built to bury rather than integrate, they often struggle to constructively address or positively resolve conflict — and trust, folks, the dam of their discontent is fixing to break.

“If there’s something you’ve been bottling up for a while, odds are very high that it’s going to come out, and it will definitely be a moment to remember,” Pingley shares.

He advises anyone without major placements in the fixed signs: “Do not mess with the fixed signs, because they’re not the ones this time around, and they’re ready to prove it.”

Pingley gives a special villain shout-out to Aries, who, though not a fixed sign, is ruled by warmonger Mars and thus always ready to light it up, burn it down, come to blows or take it outside.

Look alive out there, folks!
