Photos: M23 rebels tighten their grip on major city in eastern DRC

Rwanda-backed rebels controlling the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)’s second major city, Bukavu, have tightened their grip on the region, marking a significant shift in a country that has}},
despite the progress achieved so far. Bukavu, a city of over 1.3 million residents, has been the target of M23, a network of 100+ armed groups that has sought to control Gerland district and surrounding areas since January 2021.
