Malaysia to fully enforce VEP from Jul 1, non-compliant foreign motorists to get US$70 fine

Malaysia Announces Rollout ofSHOW SUMMONS for Foreign Vehicles Without Vehicle Entry Permits (VEP)

Malaysia subsequently began issuing sums of RM300 (approximately US$70.65) to foreign vehicles entering its land borders from Singapore without Vehicle Entry Permits (VEP) starting on July 1. This brings to light the need for a standardized process for vehicles traveling across the commonly accessed land barrier, ensuring seamless cross-border communication and trade. The government, under the Transport Ministry, emphasized the importance of VEP registration for ease of crossing land boundary vehicles, promoting efficient international trade and regional development opportunities.

The New Summons Would Be for Private Individual and Company Vehicles Without VEP

For private individual vehicles without a valid VEP, the summons must be paid and completed registration (agreement) before exiting Malaysia. While vehicle pre-registered but unactivated VEPs will be issued with the summons and require payment and completion before departing. Similarly, initial pre-operator and non-operator vehicle achvements would have facilitated the issue, though specific details may vary.

Existing Tag Statistics Are Valuable For Understanding the Process

This initiative aims to streamline cross-border communication, encourage investment, and stimulate economic growth.
