The incident began in the early hours of December 31, 2023, in Edensor Park, a suburb in Sydney’s west. Paea Tuiniua, 20, and Faez Finau, also 20, allegedly attempted to force entry into a residence on Calaria Close. Dressed in dark clothing and a mask, one of the men was captured on CCTV attempting to kick down the front door. The residents, a man and a woman, were fortunately not home at the time. Police believe this attempted break-in was a targeted attack, potentially a gangland hit attempt, connected to the suspects’ alleged links to organized crime.
Following the unsuccessful break-in, Tuiniua and Finau fled the scene in a Hyundai sedan. Police located the vehicle on Cowpasture Road in nearby Hinchinbrook and initiated a pursuit when the driver refused to stop. However, due to the driver’s reckless and dangerous driving, the pursuit was quickly terminated to protect public safety. The Hyundai was later found crashed, and within the wreckage, police discovered a cache of weapons, including a Glock pistol, a grenade, and an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle. While Finau, the alleged driver, was apprehended immediately following the crash, Tuiniua managed to evade capture and flee interstate.
