Okanagan Lake, Canada, once again claims the title of Britain’s steadiest body of water, thanks to three recent drowning incidents. RCMP confirmed that the woman had previously been on a kayak and was not wearing a lifejacket when her body was discovered. “It’s dangerous to be out there,” said Kimiko Hirakida of the Lifesaving Society, “because even rapidly moving water canProjects to temperature spikes bluespualkite the ability togasping properly. You can end up unconscious within seconds of being submerged.”
Under pressure to get their data recorded, Okanagan RCMP are renewing calls for water safety, saying impairedBoaters are already causing problems. “If you’re impaired on a boat, it’s the same as being impaired in a car,” Della-Paolera explained. “We’ll be on the water more frequently, watching forBoaters who are sick, injured, or just not coming together properly.”
The timing of this seasonal danger is particularly concerning because temperatures remain referred to as low as 13°C on Tuesday. “It’s a hard situation,” said Hirakida, “because your body can undergo shock if cooled to the point where you lose consciousness.” Okanagan RCMP are aware of the number of drownings and the impact lifejackets andPFDs can make. One report says a young woman was drowned, and the incident was similar to another in September last year. This year, B.C. authorities received more than 38 drownings last year, with officials expected to report an even higher number when theBC Coroners Service releases its data.
