On Sunday, January 5, 2025, at approximately 8:45 a.m. Pacific Standard Time, a white pickup truck bearing Washington state license plates failed to stop at the Pacific Highway border crossing in Surrey, British Columbia. The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) immediately flagged the vehicle’s illegal entry and alerted the Surrey Police Service. This initiated a swift response from local law enforcement to locate and apprehend the driver.

Shortly after the border breach, Surrey police officers observed the same white pickup truck traveling erratically along King George Boulevard. The vehicle’s erratic behavior included veering into oncoming traffic, presenting a significant danger to other motorists. Police officers quickly intervened and successfully apprehended the driver without incident. The driver was alone in the vehicle at the time of the arrest.

While the incident resulted in damage to an unspecified number of vehicles, thankfully, no injuries were reported. This is fortunate considering the potential for serious harm given the truck’s reckless driving. The prompt response and intervention of the Surrey Police Service likely prevented a more severe outcome.

The Surrey Police Service has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the incident. As of the initial report, the identity of the driver has not been released to the public. The investigation will likely focus on determining the driver’s motive for failing to stop at the border and subsequently driving erratically. Potential charges against the driver could include failing to stop at a designated port of entry, dangerous driving, and possibly other offenses related to the property damage caused.

Authorities are actively seeking public assistance in gathering further information regarding this incident. Anyone who witnessed the border crossing breach or the subsequent erratic driving on King George Boulevard is urged to contact the Surrey Police Service. Additionally, individuals with dashcam footage or any other video evidence related to the event are encouraged to share it with investigators. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

This incident underscores the importance of border security and the collaborative efforts between the CBSA and local law enforcement agencies like the Surrey Police Service. The quick response and effective communication between these entities played a crucial role in preventing a potentially dangerous situation from escalating further and ensuring public safety. The ongoing investigation will provide a more complete understanding of the circumstances surrounding this event and will likely lead to appropriate legal action against the driver. The information gathered will also be valuable in informing future strategies to prevent similar incidents and enhance border security measures.
