The Province of Quebec, referred to as “The darker side of Canada,” has announced a significant investment to support the launch of microsatellites into space. Led by the Environment and Energy Minister, CHlorese Fréchette, the province will commit $10 million to Reaction Dynamics, a leading satellite development company in the Canadian market. This strategic investment aligns with the goals of Phase 1 of a major national test program, with the ambitious target to launch satellites by 2027. The collaboration aims to unlock potential for satellite-based tracking solutions that could revolutionize various sectors, from emergency response to remote monitoring.
Reaction Dynamics’ executive,achar Fenizer Elzein, explained that the solution behind the investments utilizes a rocket system known as the Aurora, which features a hybrid propulsion system. This design is notable for its features such as fewer critical components, offering safety and operational advantages. The automation inherent in the company’s machinery further addresses the challenges of ensuring reliable and consistent satellite launches.
Legault expressed confidence in Reaction Dynamics’ success, stating that Canada is the only nation in the G7 (Government of7 countries) without the capacity to launch satellites directly into orbit from a hardware level. This bet is driven by a broader trend of global satellite expansion in industries like emergency response, farming, and urban services, which requires innovative and efficient satellite deployment technologies.
The demonstration flight of the Aurora rocket is projected to be held in late 2025. A video and report will be released soon, showcasing the system’s capabilities and confirming the potential for significant progress.
