The Unraveling of a Lethbridge Motel Murder: A Chronicle of Investigation and Arrest

The quiet city of Lethbridge, Alberta, was shaken on December 28, 2024, by the discovery of a woman’s lifeless body in a ground-floor motel room. The victim, identified as 34-year-old Christina Webber, became the center of a rapidly unfolding homicide investigation that would lead to the arrest of two individuals and the ongoing search for a third suspect. This tragic incident, initially shrouded in mystery, gradually revealed a complex narrative involving a firearm, arson, and a network of individuals connected to the victim.

The Lethbridge Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Division immediately took the reins of the case, meticulously piecing together the events leading up to Webber’s death. Their investigation revealed that two men and a woman, all known to Webber, had been present in her motel room on December 26, two days prior to the discovery of her body. A fatal "interaction involving a firearm" transpired within the confines of the room, resulting in Webber’s untimely demise. Following the shooting, the three suspects allegedly removed personal belongings from the room and fled the scene in an SUV. This vehicle, a crucial piece of evidence in the evolving puzzle, was later found abandoned and set ablaze along the 500 block of 7 Avenue South, further complicating the investigation.

The grim discovery of Webber’s body prompted authorities to transport her remains to Calgary for a comprehensive autopsy. The medical examiner’s findings confirmed the initial suspicions, officially classifying Webber’s death as a homicide. Armed with this crucial piece of information, the Lethbridge Police Service embarked on a series of meticulous searches across multiple properties in Lethbridge, seeking any clues that might shed light on the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. Their efforts quickly yielded results, leading to the first arrest in the case.

On December 29, 2024, just one day after the discovery of Webber’s body, police apprehended 28-year-old Drew Austin Waters of Cranbrook as he was leaving the Lethbridge Correctional Centre. Ironically, Waters had just completed a weekend sentence for unrelated charges when he was taken into custody. He now faces grave charges of first-degree murder, arson to property, and possession of a prohibited firearm. This arrest marked a significant breakthrough in the investigation, bringing authorities one step closer to unraveling the complex web of events surrounding Webber’s death.

The investigation continued to gain momentum, leading to a second arrest on December 30. Acting on information gathered during their relentless pursuit of justice, police executed a search warrant at a residence located along the 200 block of 19 Street North in Lethbridge. Following a brief standoff with officers, 36-year-old Kyle Douglas Doddridge of Lethbridge was apprehended and subsequently charged with first-degree murder and arson to property. The arrest of Doddridge further solidified the progress made by law enforcement in their quest to bring those responsible for Webber’s death to justice.

While the arrests of Waters and Doddridge represented significant milestones in the investigation, the search for a third suspect remains ongoing. The Lethbridge Police Service has identified 23-year-old Melissa Christelle Tidlund of Pincher Creek as a key figure in this complex case and has issued a warrant for her arrest. Law enforcement agencies are actively pursuing all leads in their efforts to locate and apprehend Tidlund, ensuring that all those involved in this tragic incident are held accountable for their actions.

The Lethbridge Police Service has assured the public that this incident was isolated and there is no further risk to the community. This reassurance, while offering a semblance of comfort, does little to alleviate the profound sadness and shock that has gripped the city in the wake of this tragic event. As the investigation continues and the wheels of justice begin to turn, the community of Lethbridge mourns the loss of Christina Webber, seeking solace and closure in the eventual resolution of this heartbreaking case. The pursuit of justice for Christina Webber remains a top priority for law enforcement, and the community eagerly awaits the apprehension of the remaining suspect and the subsequent legal proceedings that will hopefully shed light on the full extent of this tragic incident.
