Toronto Area Welcomes First Newborns of 2025

The dawn of 2025 brought with it the joyous arrival of newborns across hospitals in the Greater Toronto Area, marking the beginning of new life and new beginnings. North York General Hospital proudly announced the first birth of the year, a mere five minutes past midnight. Baby Harper, weighing in at a healthy seven pounds and 14 ounces, was welcomed into the world by proud parents Chris and Machaela, ushering in a new chapter in their lives and adding to the festive spirit of the new year.

A few hours later, the Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, located north of Toronto, celebrated its first birth of 2025. At 2:45 a.m., baby Anhad, weighing six pounds and two ounces, was born to parents Taranpreet and Vijayvir, residents of Vaughan. This joyous occasion added to the hospital’s impressive record, having delivered over 4,300 babies in the preceding year, 2024. The hospital staff expressed their honour and privilege at being a part of such a significant moment in the lives of these families.

Dr. Olamide Sobowale of Mackenzie Health, the organization that operates Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, emphasized the significance of these first births, highlighting the joy and hope they represent.
