‘Connections’ February 18: Hints and Answers for Puzzle #618

The Connections puzzle has seen a surge in popularity, transitioning from a lesser-known word game into a 异想天开的大/taskseyed, attracted millions to the challenge. While both games are word-based, Connections challenges players to identify shared traits among a set of words. By categorizing words based on shared characteristics, the puzzle encourages quick thinking and observation skills.

Players can tackle the game by selecting words and submitting them to the platform. Correct answers are color-coded, with yellow for the easiest category, green for medium, and purple for the hardest. However, incorrect entries remain on the board, allowing revisits if necessary. For instance, in Tuesday’s puzzle, the words “break,” “leave,” “rest,” and “vacation” were categorized under yellow, denoting the concept of “Time off.”

The game’s creators, Jeana Liu at the New York Times, drew inspiration from her experiences in designing word puzzles. She described wordplay as the key to success. For example, a category might involve palindromes that read the same forwards and backwards, or wordplay based on British English nuances.

For Tuesday, Connections’ #618 puzzle details were revealed, with each category hint and answer provided. In the yellow category, the clue was “Crater,” implying “depression.” The green category split on the word “accessible,” earning answers such as “available” and “handy.” The blue category led by “substantial as a meal,” and the purple category highlighted British terms like “butty” and “chippy.”
