Manchester United 4-0 Everton: Rashford and Zirkzee Score Twice Each as Ruben Amorim Celebrates First League Victory

In a commanding performance, Manchester United triumphed over Everton with a comprehensive 4-0 victory in Ruben Amorim’s first Premier League home match. Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee each scored twice, showcasing their attacking prowess and contributing significantly to the team’s success. Rashford opened the scoring in the 34th minute with a well-timed half-volley from Bruno Fernandes’ corner, putting the hosts ahead. Seven minutes later, Zirkzee doubled the lead, capitalizing on a defensive error. The second half saw Rashford quickly net his second goal, finishing from close range after being set up by Amad Diallo, who later assisted Zirkzee for his second goal, cementing United’s dominance on the pitch.

This decisive victory marked a turnaround for Manchester United, coming after a disappointing draw against Ipswich Town in Amorim’s inaugural match. The win lifted United to ninth in the Premier League standings, a positive step after a rocky start to the season. In contrast, Everton struggled to generate any real threat, remaining in 15th place and just two points clear of the relegation zone. Their performance was notably lackluster, with their best chance to score coming from Beto, who failed to convert after rounding goalkeeper Andre Onana. Sean Dyche’s side is now on a worrying run, going winless in five matches, with upcoming fixtures against formidable opponents posing further challenges.

Marcus Rashford’s resurgence under Amorim’s management has been a key talking point. With three goals in just two league games, it is clear that the system being implemented by the new coach is better suited to the strengths of his attackers. Rashford’s increased focus on attacking duties, freed from defensive responsibilities, is essential to his newfound form. The tactics employed by Amorim, including a back-three and the use of wing-backs, have allowed Rashford to excel. This approach appears to foster a more offensive mindset within the team, providing them the opportunity to score with greater frequency. The performance against Everton was also the first time United had won by four or more goals in the league since August 2021, underscoring the progress they have made under Amorim.

Amad Diallo emerged as a standout performer in the match, earning the Player of the Match accolade due to his vital contributions in both defense and attack. The 22-year-old’s performance was marked by tenacity and skill, proving integral in creating four goals. Diallo’s impressive work ethic and decision-making on the ball made him a constant threat to Everton’s defense, allowing him to play a crucial role in three of the four goals scored by United. His ability to pressure opponents led to the team capitalizing on defensive mistakes, highlighting his capability to influence the game significantly.

Player ratings reflected United’s dominant display, with Diallo receiving the highest score of 9, while Rashford, Zirkzee, and Fernandes were rated 8. On the other hand, Everton’s players struggled, with most earning scores ranging from 4 to 6, indicative of their poor showing. Jordan Pickford, the Everton goalkeeper, received a 5 as he faced a barrage of shots and was unable to keep a clean sheet. This match marks a stark contrast in performance expectations, showcasing the disparities between both teams.

The match’s key moments were critical in illustrating the flow of the game. Rashford’s initial goal set the tone, followed by Zirkzee’s strike that extended the lead before half-time. The second half started explosively for United, with Rashford quickly adding another goal, exemplifying the team’s high-octane approach. Zirkzee rounded off the scoring, ensuring a comfortable victory for the home side. This result bodes well for United’s campaign as they look to build momentum, while Everton must regroup quickly to avoid slipping further toward the relegation battle. Overall, this match served as a significant testament to United’s attacking capabilities under their new manager, suggesting a bright future ahead as they aim for improved league position and consistency.
