Former NASA Commander Reports Near Mid-Air Collision with Unidentified Metallic Objects During Private Flight

Leroy Chiao, a seasoned astronaut with three Space Shuttle missions and a command of Expedition 10 under his belt, found himself in an unnerving situation last summer. While piloting his private plane over the Texas panhandle, he experienced a near-collision with two unidentified flying objects, described as metallic, spherical orbs. This incident, recounted in an interview with NewsNation, adds another layer to the ongoing discussion surrounding unexplained aerial phenomena. Chiao’s experience, given his background and expertise, lends a certain weight to the conversation, prompting further questions about the nature of these objects and the potential implications for aviation safety.

The encounter occurred as Chiao was returning to Houston from Colorado. After refueling in the Texas panhandle, he was cruising at an altitude of 9,000 feet in clear weather conditions. Suddenly, two metallic orbs, each estimated to be about three feet in diameter, zipped past his aircraft, coming within a mere 20 feet of his plane. The objects, stacked one on top of the other, appeared seemingly out of nowhere and moved with remarkable speed. The brevity of the encounter left Chiao little time to react, let alone experience fear. However, the close proximity of the orbs underscored the potential for a disastrous collision. The incident left Chiao bewildered and searching for an explanation.

Adding to the mystery, Chiao confirmed that the orbs were not detected by his plane’s radar, nor were they reported by air traffic control. This lack of corroborating evidence raises questions about the nature of these objects and their ability to evade conventional detection systems. While Chiao initially speculated that the orbs could be part of a classified military drone program, he acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding their origin. The absence of any official explanation leaves open the possibility of more unconventional explanations, fueling speculation about the nature of unidentified aerial phenomena.

Chiao’s experience resonates with other recent reports of unusual aerial activity, particularly the drone phenomenon observed in New Jersey. Starting in November 2023, numerous sightings of drones, some displaying advanced capabilities, were reported across New Jersey and even reaching Staten Island. These reports, coupled with Chiao’s encounter, raise concerns about the increasing presence of unidentified objects in airspace, and the potential risks they pose to both civilian and military aircraft. The inability of authorities to definitively identify these objects highlights a gap in our understanding and ability to monitor aerial activity.

Further adding to the intrigue is helicopter footage aired by local news, capturing an orb-like object traversing the Hudson River at high speed, possibly originating from the direction of New Jersey. This incident, along with the New Jersey drone sightings, suggests a potential connection between these events, pointing towards a larger phenomenon at play. The repeated appearance of these unidentified objects in various locations underlines the need for a comprehensive investigation into their nature and origin.

The increasing frequency of these unexplained aerial encounters is not limited to civilian airspace. Last year, the Pentagon declassified radar footage showcasing an orb-like object maneuvering within military-controlled airspace. The Pentagon’s admission that they could not identify the object underscores the challenges posed by these unknown aerial phenomena. The incursion of these objects into sensitive airspace raises concerns about national security and the potential vulnerability of our defense systems to unknown technologies.

Chiao’s experience, combined with the New Jersey drone incidents, the Hudson River sighting, and the Pentagon’s own unexplained radar footage, paints a compelling picture of an evolving aerial landscape. These incidents highlight the limitations of current detection and identification systems and underscore the need for a more comprehensive approach to understanding and addressing these unexplained aerial phenomena. The potential implications for aviation safety, national security, and our understanding of the very nature of our airspace demand further investigation and a transparent dialogue about the challenges posed by these unidentified objects.
