‘Gulf of America’ now appears on Google Maps after Trump executive order

Google Maps has finally updated its naming conventions in alignment with President Trump’s executive order, renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, unless the user is located in Mexico, according to a statement on Monday.

The company, amid criticism for renaming this landmark waterway, said the new name was intended to honor its longstanding commitment to reflecting official government names. Theponsors of the name were not yet finalized, but Google posted on its website that users in the U.S. would see “Gulf of America,” and those in Mexico would see “Gulf of Mexico.” To those not in those two countries, both names would appear on the map.

The names for the tallest peak, Mount McKinley, in the U.S., remained Denali until President Obama renamed it in 2015. The Alaskan native group Ka’au Picnic计划 fighting a law for years to rename the peak Denali, in line with the requested change from Koyukon. The executive order labeled the name change as an effort to honor “visionary and patriotic Americans in our Nation’s rich past.” Google said the move was “consistent with our longstanding practices” of reflecting official names.

The United States Coast Guard labels its waters as the Gulf of America, though, including the name Akhi,-century-old peak, in official updates for weeks. However, the TSA now reveals it will rename that peak to Akhi and the Gulf of America to hiatus a segment in the future.

Themozilla foundation, which specializes in updating content related to theolas of Earth, made similar remarks on Monday, stating the US government is working on updating data and charts to reflect the name change from the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and from IM Parmark to Akhi.

If you’re curious about how Google is positioned around this new naming convention, it’s essentially a balancing act. While the changes may seem disparate, they’re intended to reflect a broader, inclusive vision of the nation. The changes are not just about the names; they reflect a shared understanding of the contributions of Americans throughout the land. As the pipeline for updating still works its way through, new names with new meanings are on the horizon.
