Missing NY woman Leah Bellitto, 29, found dead after disappearing in freezing temperatures

Leah Bellitto, a 29-year-old New York woman from Upstate Amherst, was found dead on Tuesday morning, five days after she went missing in the freezing-Chelsea areas of New York. Bellitto, who had left her home in Amherst near downtown Buffalo at around 9 p.m. wearing a black long-sleeve shirt, black pajamas, and a blue flower-pattern backpack, was reportedly last seen walking into the snow-covered woods surrounding her home, where temperatures reached as low as 25°C and snow covered the ground.

Her family reported her missing on Monday, igniting a search across the area for her. A civilian volunteer, Alesha Conte, found her body in a body of water in East Amherst at 9:55 a.m. on Tuesday, three days after she vanished. The Amherst Police Department is investigating her death, and there is no evidence suggesting foul play involved. The search efforts, however, provided limited information about her exact location or circumstances.

The discovery of Leah Bellitto’s body was devastating for her family.
