Seven Arrested, Including Two Long Island Women, on Sex Trafficking Charges Related to Emmarae Gervasi’s Disappearance

The disappearance and subsequent rescue of 14-year-old Emmarae Gervasi from Long Island unfolded over a month, revealing a complex web of alleged sex trafficking and child endangerment. Initially disappearing from her Patchogue home on December 9th, 2024, after reportedly entering a car driven by Francis Buckheit, Gervasi’s ordeal captivated the public and sparked a multi-agency investigation. The discovery of her severed ankle monitor, which she had been court-mandated to wear, a block away from her home, immediately raised red flags and intensified the search efforts. Gervasi’s brief reappearance the following day, captured on security footage as she knocked on doors at a Bohemia motel, only deepened the mystery surrounding her whereabouts. The investigation ultimately led to a boat docked at an Islip marina owned by Buckheit, where Gervasi was found on January 3rd, 2025. Her father, Frank Gervasi, acting on an anonymous tip, dramatically rescued his daughter from the vessel, publicly declaring her a victim of sex trafficking.

The unfolding investigation resulted in a series of arrests, with seven individuals now implicated in the case. Buckheit’s arrest, occurring on the same day Gervasi was found, stemmed from his intoxicated arrival at the marina. He faces charges of kidnapping, rape, and endangering the welfare of a child. Ten days later, Bunice Knight, whose Copiague home allegedly played a role in Gervasi’s ordeal, was also arrested and charged with rape and endangering the welfare of a child. Two more women, Jacquelyn Comiskey and Elizabeth Hunter, were subsequently arrested and charged with sex trafficking and endangering the welfare of a child. Comiskey is accused of transporting Gervasi to Knight’s residence in exchange for drugs, while Hunter faces an additional charge of promoting an obscene sex performance by a child under 17.

Three additional men, Alton Harrell, Daniel Burke, and Robert Eccleston, were also apprehended and charged with kidnapping, rape, and endangering the welfare of a child. Their alleged involvement in the case is connected to incidents occurring on December 9th and 10th, the period immediately following Gervasi’s initial disappearance. The arrests paint a disturbing picture of potential exploitation and abuse, with the accumulating charges suggesting a network of individuals who may have played various roles in Gervasi’s ordeal. As the investigation continues, the complexities of the case are likely to be further revealed, potentially exposing a broader network of individuals involved in this alleged sex trafficking operation.

The legal proceedings against the seven individuals charged are currently underway. All defendants have pleaded not guilty to the charges levied against them. Comiskey and Hunter’s bail was set at $750,000 each following their arraignment. The specific bail amounts for the other defendants, including Buckheit, Knight, Harrell, Burke, and Eccleston, haven’t been explicitly mentioned in the provided information, suggesting they may still be subject to judicial determination. The details of these proceedings, including bail hearings and potential trial dates, will likely emerge as the legal process progresses.

The Gervasi case highlights the deeply troubling issue of child sex trafficking, a crime that often operates unseen and preys upon vulnerable youth. The alleged involvement of multiple individuals in this case suggests a potential organized network dedicated to the exploitation of minors. The use of drugs, as alleged in Comiskey’s case, further underscores the manipulative tactics often employed by traffickers to control their victims. Gervasi’s case serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for continued vigilance and proactive measures to combat child sex trafficking and protect vulnerable youth from exploitation.

As the case progresses through the legal system, the focus will likely shift to gathering evidence and building a strong case against each defendant. The testimony of Emmarae Gervasi will undoubtedly be crucial in establishing the facts of the case and holding those responsible accountable for their alleged crimes. The investigation may also expand to explore the possibility of a larger trafficking ring operating in the area, which could lead to further arrests and prosecutions. The outcome of this case will not only have profound implications for the individuals involved but will also send a message about the seriousness with which society views the crime of child sex trafficking.
