Suspect in Fatal Stabbing of 14-Year-Old NYC Boy Linked to Bronx Subway Slashing

The tragic and senseless murder of 14-year-old Caleb Rios in the Bronx has sent shockwaves through the community and sparked an intensive manhunt for the perpetrator. Rios was fatally stabbed twice in the chest in broad daylight, a seemingly unprovoked attack that has left residents reeling and demanding justice. The incident, which occurred on East 138th Street near Lincoln Avenue in Mott Haven, has been linked to a previous stabbing in the same neighborhood, further intensifying the urgency to apprehend the suspect. The NYPD has released surveillance footage of the individual, described as a tall, slim man, and is actively seeking information from the public to aid in their investigation.

The attack on Caleb Rios unfolded around 9:25 a.m. on a Friday morning, as the young boy stood on the sidewalk. Without warning, the assailant approached and plunged a knife into Rios’s chest, inflicting fatal wounds. Despite being rushed to Lincoln Medical Center, the young boy succumbed to his injuries, leaving his family and community devastated. The brazen nature of the attack, occurring in broad daylight and without apparent provocation, has heightened fears in the neighborhood and underscored the urgent need to bring the perpetrator to justice.

Adding another layer of complexity to the case, the NYPD has linked the murder of Caleb Rios to an earlier stabbing incident in the same vicinity. On January 5th, just weeks before Rios’s death, a 38-year-old man was randomly slashed in the arm while standing on the steps of the Third Avenue and 138th Street No. 6 train station. The similarities between the two attacks, both seemingly random acts of violence in the Mott Haven neighborhood, led investigators to believe they were committed by the same individual. This connection not only reinforces the dangerous nature of the suspect but also provides additional evidence for the ongoing investigation.

Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny addressed the public in a late Friday news conference, revealing the chilling details of the case and highlighting the link between the two stabbings. He emphasized the importance of community cooperation in identifying and apprehending the suspect, urging anyone with information to come forward. The release of surveillance footage capturing the suspect’s image has been a crucial step in the investigation, providing a visual representation for the public to identify. The suspect, described as being between 6-foot-one and 6-foot-three with a slim build, is now the focus of an intense manhunt.

While the NYPD has a person of interest in custody, the investigation remains active, and the public’s assistance is still vital in solidifying the case against the suspect. The individual in custody may provide crucial information that could lead to a conviction, but confirming the link between the person of interest and the surveillance footage is paramount. Investigators are meticulously piecing together the evidence, analyzing the footage, and conducting interviews to establish a definitive connection and ensure that the person responsible for these heinous acts is brought to justice.

The tragic death of Caleb Rios has left a void in his family and community, serving as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of senseless violence. The NYPD is committed to pursuing every lead and utilizing all available resources to bring closure to this case. The search for the suspect remains ongoing, with investigators working tirelessly to gather evidence, analyze information, and ultimately bring the perpetrator to justice. The community’s cooperation is crucial in this effort, as every piece of information, no matter how small, could be the key to solving this case and ensuring the safety of the neighborhood.
