Matthew Janik, a 39-year-old former associate director of athletics communications at Sacred Heart University (SHU), was arrested on December 30, 2023, in Bloomfield, Connecticut, on multiple felony charges related to child sexual abuse. These charges stemmed from an undercover operation conducted by the Bloomfield Police Department, where an officer posed as a 14-year-old girl online. Janik initiated contact with the undercover officer through the website Chatib, engaging in sexually explicit conversations and expressing his desire to meet for sexual activity.
