In Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District, voters elected Republican Rob Bresnahan, a successful businessman, to replace Democratic incumbent Matt Cartwright. Bresnahan connected with voters by focusing on “kitchen table issues” related to rising living costs, particularly due to increased prices for food and gas. He emphasized the struggles of everyday Pennsylvanians who felt that their needs were being ignored while government resources were allocated to illegal immigrants and foreign aid. Bresnahan’s background as a young CEO of a construction company in Luzerne County helped him relate to the concerns of working-class residents.

Bresnahan entered politics because he believed that the country was heading in the wrong direction, with decisions from Washington negatively affecting businesses and individuals alike. His campaign platform centered on securing the border, cutting taxes, supporting law enforcement, and creating family-sustaining jobs. Endorsed by former President Donald Trump, Bresnahan is part of an incoming Republican majority in Congress focused on implementing a pro-growth agenda. He stressed the importance of securing the border, lowering energy costs, and addressing the rising national debt through responsible spending decisions. Bresnahan also highlighted the need to support non-college careers like carpentry and plumbing.

On foreign policy, Bresnahan advocated for the United States to remain a global superpower through a policy of “peace through strength.” He expressed support for pushing back against Russian aggression, but also called for accountability in foreign aid distribution to ensure funds were being used appropriately. Echoing Trump’s “America first” stance, Bresnahan emphasized the need for Europe to match U.S. contributions to foreign aid and focus on rebuilding domestic infrastructure. He believes that prioritizing American interests is crucial before engaging in significant foreign assistance efforts.

Bresnahan aims to bring common-sense solutions to complex issues facing Americans and is open to working with members of both parties to find positive outcomes. Despite being a self-identified fiscal conservative, he rejects political labels and focuses on civil debate and collaboration to address challenges effectively. In addressing contentious issues like transgender rights, Bresnahan emphasizes the need to focus on more pressing matters such as infrastructure repair and affordability for American families. He is determined to prioritize the needs of everyday Americans and provide tangible solutions in Congress to improve their quality of life.

As a first-time representative, Bresnahan is prepared to tackle a range of policy challenges upon entering office, including securing the border, addressing inflation, and handling the national debt responsibly. He recognizes the importance of balancing federal spending while also preserving essential programs like Social Security and Medicare for current and future generations. With a focus on economic growth, job creation, and supporting American workers, Bresnahan is committed to representing the interests of his constituents in Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District and working towards positive change in Washington, D.C.
