Ten Rising Stars Poised to Emerge in the Democratic and Republican Parties in 2025

Rising Stars in the Democratic Party: Navigating a Post-Biden Era

The 2024 election dealt a significant blow to the Democratic Party, witnessing the departure of President Biden from the political arena and the subsequent defeat of Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz in the presidential race. This electoral setback has created a leadership vacuum within the party, prompting the emergence of several prominent figures poised to shape the Democrats’ future.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, widely regarded as a strong contender for the vice presidential slot on the Harris ticket, has emerged as a key figure in the party. His moderate stance and governorship of a crucial swing state position him as a potential presidential candidate in 2028. His strong performance in the 2026 gubernatorial race could further solidify his national standing.

Another rising star is Representative Pat Ryan of New York, who defied expectations by securing a resounding victory in a competitive swing district. Ryan’s outspoken critique of the Democratic Party’s messaging and his emphasis on championing working-class interests resonate with a broad electorate. His call for a return to core principles of freedom and patriotism, coupled with a sharp focus on economic inequality, offers a compelling narrative for the party’s future.

Senator-elect Angela Alsobrooks of Maryland has also garnered national attention after becoming the first Black candidate to win a Maryland Senate race. Her decisive victory over popular Republican Larry Hogan, driven by strong support from women, minority groups, and urban voters, highlights her ability to mobilize key demographics. Alsobrooks’ focus on issues like gun control and abortion rights aligns with core Democratic values.

Maryland Governor Wes Moore, another rising star, has gained prominence as the state’s first Black governor. His military background, academic achievements, and self-proclaimed "social moderate and strong fiscal conservative" stance appeal to a broad spectrum of voters. Moore’s leadership during crises, such as the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse, has further solidified his reputation as a capable and compassionate leader.

California Governor Gavin Newsom, while not a new face in politics, is anticipated to be a leading contender for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination. His prominent role as a surrogate for Biden and Harris during the 2024 campaign and his experience leading a large, diverse state position him as a formidable force within the party.

Republican Party: Navigating the Post-Trump Landscape

With Donald Trump’s return to the White House, the Republican Party faces a period of transition and uncertainty as it looks beyond his presidency. While Trump is expected to dominate the political landscape for the next four years, other prominent figures are emerging as potential successors, shaping the party’s future direction.

Vice President-elect JD Vance, by virtue of his position, is considered a frontrunner for the 2028 Republican nomination. His close association with Trump and his electoral success position him as a key figure within the party.

Representative Byron Donalds of Florida has gained national recognition as a staunch Trump supporter and a vocal advocate for the president-elect’s agenda. His frequent appearances on cable news, even in hostile environments, have solidified his reputation as a skilled communicator and a fierce defender of Trump’s policies.

Senator-elect Bernie Moreno of Ohio, a strong Trump ally, has quickly established himself as a prominent voice within the Republican Party. His early support for Trump’s Cabinet picks and his commitment to term limits signal a willingness to challenge established norms and champion conservative principles.

Representative-elect Abraham Hamadeh of Arizona, a military veteran and former prosecutor, brings a unique perspective to the Republican Party. His vocal support for Trump’s "Make America Great Britain Again" agenda and his focus on veterans’ issues resonates with a key constituency within the party.

Vivek Ramaswamy, a former 2024 presidential candidate and prominent Trump surrogate, has emerged as a rising star in Republican circles. His appointment to co-lead the Department of Government Efficiency alongside Elon Musk underscores his focus on fiscal responsibility and government reform. His potential interest in the Ohio governorship further highlights his political ambitions.

The political landscape in both parties is evolving rapidly, with new leaders emerging to shape the future of American politics. The challenges and opportunities facing these rising stars will define the direction of their respective parties in the years to come.
