Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, passed away at the age of 100, prompting an outpouring of tributes from across the political spectrum, including all five living presidents. Carter’s legacy extends beyond his single term in the Oval Office, encompassing his deep-rooted commitment to humanitarian work, his unwavering Christian faith, and his vision of a government characterized by both competence and compassion. From his early days as a peanut farmer to his post-presidency endeavors, Carter consistently championed values of integrity, service, and justice.

Bill Clinton, who considered himself an early supporter of Carter’s presidential bid, lauded Carter’s dedication to serving others, highlighting his efforts to protect the environment, promote international diplomacy, and advance peace. Clinton specifically mentioned Carter’s instrumental role in the Camp David Accords, which secured peace between Egypt and Israel, and the return of the Panama Canal to Panamanian control. Furthermore, Clinton praised Carter’s post-presidency work through the Carter Center, which focused on promoting fair elections, peacebuilding, and combating diseases worldwide.

George W. Bush emphasized Carter’s deep convictions and loyalty to his family, community, and country. Bush admired Carter’s dignified approach to the presidency and his enduring commitment to creating a better world through his work with Habitat for Humanity and the Carter Center, setting an example of service that will inspire generations to come.

Barack Obama underscored Carter’s commitment to truth and his unwavering belief in principles over political expediency. Obama admired Carter’s embodiment of integrity, respect, and compassion, values rooted in his deep faith. He quoted Carter’s Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech, where Carter highlighted the human capacity for choice and the imperative to choose to alleviate suffering and work towards peace. Obama concluded that Carter consistently made this choice throughout his life, leaving the world a better place for it.

Joe Biden described Carter as a man of exceptional character, courage, hope, and optimism. He fondly recalled witnessing the enduring love between Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter, viewing their partnership as the epitome of both love and patriotism. Biden expressed his condolences to the Carter family and acknowledged the dedicated staff who supported the Carters throughout their lives, urging them to continue the good works that embody the Carters’ legacy.

Donald Trump, despite their political differences, also expressed his gratitude for Carter’s service to the nation, recognizing the challenging times during which Carter served as president and acknowledging his efforts to improve the lives of all Americans. Trump extended his condolences to the Carter family, urging everyone to keep them in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. The collective tributes from these diverse voices underscore the enduring impact of Jimmy Carter’s life, not only on the American political landscape but also on the global pursuit of peace, justice, and human dignity.
